Affordable, Professional Wedding Photos in Ballito
Most of the numerous couples who’ve selected the beautiful coastal town of Ballito as their wedding destination and made use of the affordable services of Eloise of Eloise Photography to record the event, have no idea of the early history of this charming region.
Before the days when she began her affordable business of wedding photos here, the area was initially known as Compensation Beach and formed part of a sugar cane farm, which belonged to one Basil Townsend. In 1953, local businessmen decided to develop a town, subsequently named Ballito when it was proclaimed as such the following year.
According to records, the first plots went on sale at a mere R790. It is said to have got its name from an advertisement for hosiery of the same name, produced by a company in St. Albans, England, although there was no direct connection between the two.
By 1986, the town was awarded borough status and since then, it has grown and developed tremendously, particularly as a leisure, lifestyle and holiday resort of distinction, becoming a jewel of the Dolphin Coast. Some of the surrounding undulating landscapes still reflects the backbone of the region’s economy – rolling green plantations of sugar cane.
Ballito and the adjacent north coastal areas were once the heartland of King Shaka’s Zulu kingdom, after he had taken over the leadership of his people, following the death of his predecessor, Dingiswayo. Shaka was a military genius, who first introduced his impi to longer cowhide shields and shorter stabbing spears, in place of longer, throwing spears which they had used until then.
In addition to promoting close quarter fighting tactics, he was also responsible for the much feared pincer movement, where his troops surrounded and decimated their enemies.
Today, the province of KwaZulu-Natal is known for its diversity of people, cultures and landscape; none is more glorious than the North Coast. Ballito itself is conveniently situated some 40km north of Durban, making it a perfect playground and venue for magnificent weddings with scenic backdrops for stunning, affordable photos and more.
